What is a Toner?
A toner is a liquid based product, used after cleansing, to balance the pH of the skin, remove any remaining impurities, and prep your skin for your serum & moisturizer.
Toners are often overlooked when building a skincare routine. In the past, they used strong astringents which would often cause stinging, dryness or sensitivity. Modern formulations are now not only less drying, but can actually be an amazing step for addressing your skin concerns. Some contain hydrating ingredients, antioxidants, botanicals, peptides & more!
What Toner Should I Use?
When deciding which toner to use, it’s all about the active ingredients. Here are our top toner picks based on your skin condition.
Dehydration: Opt for a toner that is rich in lipids or contains other hydrating ingredients like lactic acid and niacinamide. We love the Suusmoon Lotion N and the Botanical Moisturising Toner.
Age-Prevention: Look no further than the Vita-Peptide Toner. This toner is packed full of peptides and antioxidants to target aging concerns from fine lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation.
Hormonal Acne: We love the Derma-Lac Lotion for hormonal acne. Lactic acid simultaneously hydrates and gently exfoliates.
Rosacea: The Suusmoon Lotion P is a multipurpose toner excellent in treating inflammatory skin conditions like rosacea. Urea, panthenol and essential fatty acids promote cellular recovery and intensely hydrate
Oily Skin: The Sebu-Tone Clarifier is our favorite for oily skin. It contains salicylic acid to balance sebum in the pores and tea-tree oil for its antimicrobial properties.
Hyperpigmentation: We love the glycolic acid based Concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Toner for treating hyperpigmentation, as well as the niacinamide-rich Mela Prep Lotion.
Founder Skincare Tip:
"When it comes to my skincare routine, I’m a ‘why fix what isn’t broken’ type of person. I love my Total Cleansing Cream and my AVST Moisturizer. Where I like to make changes, however, is with my toner. Depending on the season and my skin concern, I’ll reach for a different toner.
In the fall, I love to use the Derma-Lac Lotion, a lactic acid based toner that targets post-summer pigmentation as well as dehydration.
In the winter, I opt for an ultra-soothing milky toner, like the Suusmoon Lotion N.
In the summer, I love the Botanical Moisturising Toner for added antioxidants and hydration.
I also always keep an Alpha-Hydroxy Toner on my shelf to use during skin flares up. While a bit too strong for me to use daily, this glycolic acid based toner is amazing for addressing stubborn breakouts."

How to Apply Your Toner?
Toner’s should be applied after cleansing, before your serum and moisturizer.
Pro Tip: dispense a small amount of toner into the palm of your hand, and press into the skin (this way more product gets absorbed into the skin rather than the cotton pad).
