Did you know that after the age 25 we lose around 1% off collagen per year? As the amount of collagen in our skin decreases, signs of ageing become more visible. Think wrinkles, sagging and dull, tired looking skin. While we can't stop the aging process, there are ways that we can support our bodies to produce new, healthy collagen for more youthful skin.
#1. Skincare
What we do daily at home will provide better results than just one, aggressive treatment every once and a while.
-Retinoids are your #1 when working to restore collagen. They have the most scientific backing of any other skin care ingredient, recognized as one of the only active ingredients that creates a physiological change in the matrix of the dermis. Finding a retinoid that works for your skin that you can use daily will make significant changes.
-Sunscreen is non-negotiable. Research shows that UV exposure causes 80%+ of skin aging. Broad-spectrum SPF is essential to protect the collagen we're working so hared to build.
#2. Treatments
-Microneedling is the gold standard treatment for rebuilding collagen. Microneedling creates a controlled, wound-healing response in the skin to promote collagen production. The downtime is minimal, and the results are well worth the cost. Just one microneedling treatment can produce collagen for over a year post-treatment.
-Red Light Therapy is taking over the skincare world lately, and for good reason. LED Light Therapy uses specific wavelengths to energize your skin cells and encourage them to function optimally. Red Light is our favourite at-home and in-clinic to enhance collagen production.
#3. Lifestyle
-Here are our top tips protect your skin from collagen breakdown in your everyday life: Stay out of the sun, prioritize sleep, hydration and eat a diet rich in fibre, protein, antioxidants and healthy fats. Limiting alcohol, smoking and highly processed foods will also help.
