Do you open up your bathroom cabinet and immediately feel overwhelmed by all of the products you have? We get it - it’s crazy how quickly you can accumulate more products than you need. In this minimalist guide, we’ll teach you how to ‘Marie Kondo’ your skincare routine. Declutter what doesn’t spark joy, and keep what you enjoy using, and most importantly, what works.
Why a Simplified Skincare Routine is Often Better
One of the most common things that we see in the studio is that people are doing too much - and we mean way too much, to their skin. Exfoliating cleansers, toners, harsh retinoids & weekly peel pads, leave the skin stressed.
Too many actives & exfoliants can often do more harm than good, leading to an impaired skin barrier. The first thing we tell our clients to do is strip things back to the basics, focus on gentle healing products to bring your skin back to balance.
How to Simplify Your Routine
A minimalist routine typically includes four core steps: cleanse, treat, and moisturize—with sun protection during the day.
1. Cleanse
Start with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser that you can use twice daily & maintain a healthy skin barrier . We love the Environ Low Foam Cleansing Gel for a deep cleanse that doesn’t dry out the skin.
2. Treat
Due to their small molecule size, serums are able to penetrate deeper into the skin, where real physiological changes occur. You want to make sure you’re using the right serum for your skin condition & goals, which is why we recommend taking our skin quiz for personalized recommendations.
3. Moisturize
Moisturizing plays a critical role in maintaining skin barrier function, preventing transepidermal water loss, and supporting overall skin health. Below are two Face Club favourites.
Environ Vita-Antioxidant AVST Moisturiser 1
This multitasking moisturizer combines low-dose vitamin A with antioxidants and peptides to improve tone, texture, and overall skin health.
Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream High Classic
This barrier-repairing cream mimics the skin’s natural structure to deliver deep hydration and nourishment.
4. Protect
Don’t skip sunscreen!! Even the most minimal routine should include daily SPF to prevent long-term damage. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher suitable for your skin type. We love Coola because it’s highly protective and feels great on the skin.
Consistency is Key
Minimalist skincare only works when it’s consistent. Sticking with a routine over time allows your skin to adjust, repair, and thrive. Constantly switching things up and chasing the latest Tiktok trends can disrupt your skin’s natural balance.
Keep in mind that results take time. Give your routine at least 4 to 6 weeks before evaluating.
